The Marine Energy Research Group covers the engineering and environmental interactions of all types of marine renewables, with the majority of work focused on tidal stream turbines. This research post will be part of a European Regional Development Fund project SELKIE, which aims to support the Marine Energy sector in Wales and Ireland. SELKIE is an exciting €5m project lasting three years, and brings together six partners (research institutes, SMEs and third sector organisations) from Wales and Ireland. University College Cork (UCC) is the lead partner on this project and most project activities at the University sit with the Marine Energy Research Group based on the Bay Campus.

Main Purpose of Post:
The postholder will be expected to contribute to the SELKIE project that has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund delivered through the Welsh and Irish Governments funded, working with an international project group of universities and SMEs. The primary purpose is to write and publish software modelling tools for tidal turbines. The postholder will be responsible for maintenance of the software archive (eg github), documentation and training materials.
- To contribute to the SELKIE project that has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund delivered through the Welsh and Irish Governments funded, working with an international project group of universities and SMEs.
- To develop tidal turbine array CFD modelling tools within the OpenFoam framework to a level that can be distributed open source to the community.
- To write technical documentation, in code documentation, instruction manuals, training materials, examples, technical reports and academic papers for a number of technical topics.
- To collaborate with research partners including national and international travel.
- To write journal papers for submission in ISI-accredited peer-reviewed journals.
This appointment in the College has a number of generic objectives common to research appointments. These relate to developing and generating novel research concepts, designs, directions, and outputs in areas related to the discipline.
