The EIC (European Innovation Council) has its own agency, the EIC executive agency resulting from the merger of the former EASME and REA. The EIC will provide financial support through two components: the EICPathfinder (reserved for the initial phases) and the EIC Accelerator (reserved for the development and commercialization phases of projects).
The EIC Accelerator (formerly SME instrument in Horizon 2020) aims to help the most promising startups and SMEs to deploy innovations of a radical and disruptive nature in the market until they reach an attractive development phase for private investments. This is a single beneficiary call.
The E.I.C. makes it possible to finance, for example, activities such as testing, prototyping, validation, demonstration and testing in real conditions and replication on the market.
If the activity concerns a mainly technological innovation, the level of technological maturity (TRL) must be at least 5/6.
The winners are offered coaching and mentoring to support them. They also get additional acceleration services to connect with investors, businesses and entrepreneurs.
- Types of funding: the selected projects receive subsidy type funding (up to € 2.5M) or mixed (subsidy up to € 2.5M and capital intervention up to € 15M). The subsidy intervention is up to a maximum of TRL 8.
