Specific skills in the MRE field

In 2019 the mean power per offshore wind turbine in Europe was about just 7.8MW, whereas in 2021, several manufacturers have announced a new generation of offshore wind turbines ready to be placed on the market with a power per unit of 14MW and 15MW. The growing needs to stay competitive with this technology lead the offshore wind turbine manufacturers to think about new designs with larger dimensions while always respecting the challenging specifications for the accessible power and the lifetime.

The projects in the offshore wind turbines area must deal with new challenges related to the sizing of the blades, turbines and submarine cables, the anchorage of the structures or corrosion in open sea. Multiphysics simulation is a vital tool which enables to test these different case studies. Such virtual testing allows either the pre-validation of a design before prototype manufacture, or the completion of experimental results already acquired in real conditions.
