
Background
In Taiwan, Northland Power and Yushan Energy have launched the Hay Long 2 and Hay Long 3 wind farm projects. The parks will be located on the west coast of Taiwan, 50 km offshore from Changhua. The construction is expected to begin in 2021-2024.
These projects will contribute to the Government of Taiwan’s goal of achieving 5.5 GW of installed capacity by 2025.
Characteristics
The park will have the following characteristics:
Hai Long 2
- water depths of 30 to 50 meters
- 500 MW, 532 MW obtained in 2018
- offshore wind turbines from 6 to 8 MW
- 90 to 105 wind turbines
Hai Long 3
- water depths of 30 to 50 meters
- 700 MW, 512 MW obtained in 2018
- offshore wind turbines from 6 to 8 MW
Chronology
May 2017
Northland Power and Yushan Energy reaffirm their plans to deploy offshore wind farms for a total capacity of 1,200 MW.
January 2018
Wind farm projects have successfully assessed their environmental impact.
February 2018
Green Giraffe becomes the main international financial adviser for the project alongside Cathay United Bank of Taiwan.
April 2018
Hai Long 2 obtains 300 MW during the phase of selection of projects with a fixed feed-in tariff.
June 2018
The Hai Long 2 and 3 projects obtain respectively 232 and 512 MW at the auction.
